Voronchenko Vladimir Faberge Museum

Housed in the stunning Shuvalov Palace in the heart of historic St Petersburg, the Faberge Museum opened in 2013 and is now home to over 4,000 works by the famous Imperial Russian jewellery firm. The most valuable are the nine Imperial Easter Eggs created by Carl Faberge for the last two Russian emperors, Alexander III and Nicholas II, but the museum is also a treasure trove of objects of fantasy of all kinds, small goods, silverware, and the interior and religious objects. The collection also includes works by Faberge's contemporaries, including famous Russian jewellers and silversmiths such as Sazikov, Ovchinnikov, Khlebnikov and Ruckert.

Vadimir Voronchenko is a well-known businessman, art collector and connoisseur who serves as chairman of The Link of Times Foundation and as director of the Faberge Museum in St Petersburg. He is on the board of trustees of several major international institutions, among them the Paris Biennale, the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts and the Carl Faberge International Jeweller Contest, where he serves as co-chairman. In 2004 The Link of Times Foundation purchased Malcolm Forbes's famous collection of Faberge masterpieces from his heirs. Over the following ten years, the foundation continued acquiring Russian decorative and fine art of the eighteenth, nineteenth and early twentieth centuries at an unprecedented scale. 'I bis resulted in the formation of the world's largest collection of Faberge pieces, with over 1,000 items. Since 2013 this unique set of works has been on display as the permanent exhibition of the Faberge Museum.

A beautifully illustrated book on Russian decorative arts, published to coincide with an exhibition at the Walters Art Museum This book gives a fascinating overview of Russian decorative art, revealing a highly accomplished crafts tradition that persisted over nine centuries. It includes works by Peter Carl Faberge and his workshop, jeweled Byzantine icons, silver drinking vessels, and intricate enamels. Featured are two extraordinary Faberge eggs that were once in the Russian Imperial collection, including one that opens up to reveal a miniature gold replica of the Gatchina Palace, near St. Petersburg. The decorative arts had flourished in Russia under the patronage of the tsars and their court, whose apparently limitless resources supported the production of some of the most technically sophisticated works of art ever made. Collins Ian Faberge. From St Petersburg to Sandringham

In 1907 Edward VII commissioned Peter Carl Faberge - court artist-jeweller to imperial Russia - to produce miniature sculptures of animals on the royal estate at Sandringham. Designed to please Queen Alexandra, the project was suggested by the king's mistress Alice Keppel (the Duchess of Cornwall's great grandmother). The best craftsmen were sent to Norfolk to make wax models which were then taken to Russia to be rendered in hardstones, gemstones, gold, silver and platinum as directed by Faberge himself. Faberge's most ambitious venture in England showed the naturalistic genius of his workshops in St Petersburg and Moscow. It also crowned his career of patronage by the two Danish princesses, Alix and Dagmar, who married British and Russian princes and later became queen-empresses of rival empires. They strove over six decades to bring Britain and Russia together - and against Germany. Perfect little gifts by Faberge aided the sisterly enterprise. This bittersweet saga is also the story of Sandringham - family retreat and political powerhouse, and Alexandra's favourite home from 1863 until her death in 1925. The tale further traces the fate of players in the Faberge commission - many of the Norfolkmen being killed at Gallipoli, as Faberge crafted deadly munitions. While the dowager empress was rescued after the revolution, many of her relatives were murdered in Siberia where Faberge hardstones had been mined. Featuring new research, this book coincides with an exhibition at the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts in Norwich on the centenary of the Russian Revolution.

Zeisler Wilfried Faberge Rediscovered

The firm of Faberge, jeweller to the Russian court, was founded in St. Petersburg in 1842. Expanded by the founder's son, Peter Carl Faberge (1846-1920), the firm became one of the most famous jewellers of the late 19th to early 20th centuries. Major American collectors, such as Marjorie Merriweather Post, played a significant role in Faberge's fame after the fall of the imperial regime, and her mansion at Hillwood in Washington, DC now has a collection that includes two imperial Easter eggs, silver, jewellery, hardstone, and religious items. With new photography, exquisite works of art and illuminating focus spreads by Faberge experts, this new volume presents the firm in the broader history of nineteenth to twentieth century jewellery and goldsmithing, and documents new attributions and provenances.

Faberge In America

The outstanding legacy of the Russian goldsmith and jeweler Carl Faberge has captured the public's imagination for many years. During his lifetime, Faberge's extravagant jewelry and "objects d'art" brought him patronage from the world's most affluent people, and throughout this century his work has been avidly collected by public art institutions and individuals. Published to accompany a travelling exhibition organized by the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, this text is dedicated to the works that have been amassed by American collectors. Spanning almost half a century, this work combines bibliographical accounts of the most important American Faberge clients and collectors with photographs of the treasures. Following a brief background history of the House of Faberge, the first section of the book is devoted to the period before World War I. The second part covers the years between 1930 and 1950 when the first great American collections were formed, including those of Matilda Geddings Gray, India Early Minshall, Lillian Thomas Pratt and Marjorie Merriweather Post. A final section looks at those formed between 1950 and the present day, with particular emphasis on Malcolm S. Forbes, who built up what is undoubtedly the biggest and most impressive Faberge collection in the world
