Игрокам в данном проекте отводится роль начальника тюрьмы, пытающегося построить лучшее исправительное учреждение на Земле. Контролируйте штат сотрудников, стройте новые блоки и камеры, поддерживайте высокий уровень счастья среди заключенных и многое другое. Чтобы тюрьма заработала, надо всего-то поставить четыре стены квадратом, начертить расположение камер, подвести пару метров труб и проводов и запустить в свое творение толпу маньяков и садистов. Однако уже к вечеру первого дня вы обнаружите, что заключенные отправили всю охрану на больничный, а сами мчатся на угнанном мусоровозе в сторону Мексики. Создавая первый тюремный проект, надо планировать каждый свой шаг, рассчитывать бюджет на несколько игровых дней вперед, учитывать случайные события и ситуации. Построили вы, например, несколько надежных камер, наняли двухметровых охранников в броне и с ружьями, запустили в коридоры собак, а на утренней проверке камеры оказались пусты, потому что заключенные прорыли наружу туннели с помощью ложек, унитазных сливов и такой-то бабушки. И это лишь одна из сотни возможных проблем. Пожары, потопы, криминальные банды, регулярные бунты не дадут вам расслабиться и заняться спокойным строительством. Вы же не «Икею» строите, в тюремном бизнесе все серьезно. Так что возведение стен наименьшая из забот. Главное тут — не только построить надежную тюрьму, но сделать так, чтобы она работала. На этом месте подключается внутриигровая экономика, на которую влияет даже то, в каком настроении просыпаются ваши узники. Если они устали, то не станут работать, учиться, замещать уборщиков или мастерить автомобильные номерные знаки на экспорт. Вместо этого они будут устраивать драки с применением всех найденных в тюрьме предметов, воровать ключи, оружие, пьянствовать и отказываться посещать курсы реабилитации. Если будете заботиться о заключенных, предоставлять им время для свиданий, саморазвития и какую-никакую свободу перемещения, они ответят вам тем же: не будут губить ваших охранников, зато станут активно трудиться на благо тюремного бюджета. Каждый заключенный имеет имя, биографию, пороки и несет на плечах груз вины. Осужденные за легкие преступления сидят недолго, не лезут в драки, не любят бунтовать и уж точно никогда не покусают патрульную собаку. Обычные узники, совершившие преступления средней тяжести, просидят дольше, поэтому с радостью на вас поработают, чтобы уменьшить себе срок. А вот с теми, кого посадили за насилие, пытки и убийства, вы однозначно намучаетесь. За них, правда, хорошо платят, но эти люди не упустят возможности уничтожить сдерживающий их режим. Чтобы перевоспитать таких, потребуется очень много времени, сил и средств.
