Alexander-Garrett Layla, Ambartsumyan Gayane, Evlampiev Igor Andrei Tarkovsky. An Artist of Space

Пр-во:

The stills from Tarkovskii films have a striking painterly quality; the sketches for costumes and sets are vivd and carefully drawn; posters are in the spirit of the films - all these aspects of Tarkovskii's work lend themselves to a museum exhibition, and this Russian Museum catalogue shows how the arts overlap and how much an artist Tarkovskii was.

Tarkovsky. Films, Stills, Polaroids & Writings

Пр-во:

Andrey Tarkovsky was the most important Russian filmmaker of the post-war era, and one of the world’s most renowned cinematic geniuses. He directed the first five of his seven films – Ivan’s Childhood, Andrei Rublev, Solaris, Mirror and Stalker – in the Soviet Union, but in 1982 defected to Italy, where he made Nostalgia. His final film, The Sacrifice, was produced in Sweden in 1985. Tarkovsky’s films are characterized by metaphysical themes, extended takes, an absence of conventional dramatical structure and plot, and a dream-like, visionary style of cinematography. They achieve a spiritual intensity and transcendent beauty that many consider to be without parallel. This book presents extended sequences of stills from each of the films alongside synopses and cast and crew listings. It includes reflections on Tarkovsky’s work from fellow artists and writers including Jean-Paul Sartre and Ingmar Bergman, for whom Tarkovsky was ‘the greatest, the one who invented a new language.’ Extracts from Tarkovsky’s own writings and diaries offer a wealth of insights into his poetic and philosophical views on cinematography, which he described as ‘sculpting in time’. The book also reproduces many personal Polaroid photographs that confirm the extraordinary poetic vision of a great artist who died aged only 54, but who remains a potent influence on artists and filmmakers today.

Museum of Proletarian Culture. The Industrialization of Bohemia

Пр-во:

Try and imagine what a museum of creativity looks like. This book tells of a challenging exhibition held in one of the major Russian museums-the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow. Arseniy Zhilyaev created a conceptual project for an imaginary museum. The viewer sees into the future after the liberation/revolution and is confronted with a radically different outlook on the history of twentieth-century art. At the core of the exhibition, there turns out to be a complex dialectic in the relationship between museum and artist: how does an artists work come to be exhibited in a museum? When and why does an artist engage in artistic creation outside the museum walls? Is the museum the space in which a "happening" takes place? The book includes texts by Russian and foreign art critics as well as a number of previously untranslated Soviet avant-garde texts about museums and proletarian folklore. 0

Gruzei Katharina, Bronovitskaya Anna, Diaconov Valentin Katharina Gruzei. Mir Metro

Пр-во:

The Moscow Metro is a unique place. With a network of 400 kilometers of lines, exceptionally deep tunnels and stations, and nearly nine million passengers a day, it is one of the most heavily frequented underground subway systems in the world. Katharina Gruzei explored it over several years and now presents an aesthetically fascinating and socioculturally remarkable photographic survey. Ideologically charged and symbolic of Russia's eventful history, the Metro was started as a prestige project and simultaneously conceived to also be used as a bunker. It was always intended as a place for people to congregate and is still today a living space where social, political and societal tendencies are made legible. With her photo series, the artist enables an extraordinary journey through time and space in the underground of Moscow, a metropolis of millions. Издание на английском, русском и немецком языках.

Nicholas Roerich

Пр-во:

The Tatarstan State Museum of ine Arts, Museum of the Art of Asian Peoples, Tretyakov Gallery, Nizhnegorod State Museum of Fine Arts, the Smolensk State Museum, and the Academy of Arts contributed works to this catalogue of an exhibition that publishes works from various periods of Roerich's half century of painting: scenes of ancient history, legend, and mythology; set, costume, and curtain design for theatrical works such as Borodin's Prince Igor, Stravinsky's Rites of Spring; and a recurrent theme of Roerich's art: Asia, its severe and beautiful landscape, harmonious settlements, and solemn shrines. As much of a philosopher as an artist, Roerich spent much of his life pursuing and expressing a higher ideal, which he saw in myths and legends and in the timeless landscapes of mountain peoples. At first glance his paintings can seem monotonous but upon closer look one sees the nuances of color and subtle ways in which Roerich interwove the human and the natural worlds. An appendix reprints articles by contemporaries and excerpts from Roerich's writings.

Scholz-Hansel Michael El Greco

Scholz-Hansel Michael El Greco

Пр-во:

The unique El Greco vision To his contemporaries in late 16th-century Venice, El Greco (1541-1614) was a contrary fellow, an innate artist blessed with extraordinary talent, but stubborn in the pursuit of his own path. Throughout his career, as he progressed from Crete to Venice, to Rome and ultimately Toledo, Spain, "The Greek" stood apart from his peers, merging different Western art traditions to create a unique pictorial language. El Greco's single-minded style rejected naturalism and rejected accessibility. Works such as The Disrobing of Christ (1577-79), The Burial of the Count of Orgaz (1586-88), and The Vision of St John (1608-14) reveal elongated, twisted figures; unreal colors; and an experimental rendering of space - all resistant to easy viewing and intent, instead, on an art of epic grandeur and intellectual beauty. Frequently regarded with suspicion and criticism during his lifetime, El Greco was revived by a troop of ardent modern admirers, including Pablo Picasso, Roger Fry, and Der Blaue Reiter pioneer Franz Marc. Today, the artist belongs to the privileged group of great old master painters, as much an anomaly of his age, as a reference point across the centuries. This essential introduction from TASCHEN Basic Art 2.0 explores the influences and the ingredients of El Greco's radical and singular vision, from the symbolic world of Byzantine icons and the humanistic values of the Renaissance to the nascent beginnings of conceptual practice.
